Andrzej Sapkowski Is Writing a New Witcher Book, Aims to Finish Manuscript by Late 2027

Andrzej Sapkowski has confirmed that he is working on a new novel set in the Witcher universe. Speaking at the Copernicon festival in Toruń, Poland, the author revealed that he theoretically expects to finish the manuscript by the end of 2027, though he immediately cautioned that the timeline could change.

That is an important distinction: the timeline refers specifically to completing the manuscript, not a guaranteed release in 2027. Editing, publishing preparation, and printing will follow, meaning the actual launch could easily slip into 2028. The publisher has not announced an official release window yet.

Sapkowski’s remarks at Copernicon were also reported by GRYOnline.pl.

Geralt Will Remain the Protagonist

Sapkowski has not revealed plot details yet. However, when asked about the possibility of a standalone book centered on Yennefer or another character from the universe, the author replied that he sees no reason to write such stories without Geralt.

The White Wolf is set to remain the central figure of the new book. That said, it is still unknown which period of his life the story will cover.

Polish media speculate that the author might continue the adventures of young Geralt from Crossroads of Ravens, but Sapkowski has not confirmed this. For now, neither a direct sequel to the latest novel nor another standalone story set elsewhere in the timeline can be ruled out.

The Previous Witcher Novel Took 11 Years

Sapkowski’s latest Witcher novel, Rozdroże kruków (Crossroads of Ravens), was published in Poland on November 29, 2024. The book focuses on a young Geralt just starting his journey after leaving Kaer Morhen.

It marked the first new Witcher novel in 11 years following Season of Storms. The English edition, titled Crossroads of Ravens, was released in September 2025.

Crossroads of Ravens itself is a prequel: Sapkowski previously explained that the main five-book saga about Geralt is complete, which is why he chose to return to the protagonist’s past for new stories.

This time, the wait should be significantly shorter. If the current pace holds, the next Witcher manuscript will be finished in just over a year.

The title, length, exact chronological placement, and release date of the new book have not yet been announced.
