Volkswagen Unveils Longer ID. Buzz Cargo: 4.4 Cubic Meters of Cargo and 86 kWh Battery

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is expanding its electric van lineup with the new ID. Buzz Cargo LWB, a long-wheelbase model. The van’s body has been stretched by 25 centimeters, significantly increasing cargo space and accommodating a larger battery. The new model is expected to become a key tool for urban delivery services that need a balance between compactness and usable volume.

More Space and New Battery Chemistry

The van’s dimensions have grown from 4.71 to 4.96 meters, and the wheelbase has been extended from 2.99 to 3.24 meters. According to AutoTrader, this has increased cargo space from 3.9 to 4.4 cubic meters, allowing items up to 2.45 meters long to be carried.

The model’s technical specifications have improved significantly:

• Battery: Capacity has grown from 79 to 86 kWh, which the manufacturer estimates will provide a range of around 480 km on the WLTP cycle (the current short-wheelbase version manages about 447 km).
• Powertrains: Buyers can choose between a rear-wheel-drive version with 210 kW (286 hp) and an all-wheel-drive 4MOTION variant producing 250 kW (340 hp).

It’s worth noting that the increased dimensions and heavier battery have reduced maximum payload: while the standard ID. Buzz Cargo can carry up to 750 kg, the long-wheelbase version is limited to 697 kg.

Ergonomics and Work-Oriented Features

Volkswagen has listened to owner feedback. As Electrek notes, the new ID. Buzz finally ditches the touch-sensitive areas on the steering wheel, replacing them with conventional physical buttons that are easier to use while wearing gloves or on the move.

The van’s practicality has also been enhanced:

• A second sliding door is now standard equipment;
• Buyers can choose the rear configuration: a classic tailgate or split rear doors;
• Vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality has been added, allowing power tools or professional equipment to be plugged into the charging port via a special adapter.

The German automaker confirmed the development of the long-wheelbase commercial model back in late 2025, but only now has the company revealed the full specifications. Pricing and exact delivery dates for dealerships will be announced soon.
