Science SARU’s New Ghost in the Shell Anime Is Fully Released: All 10 Episodes Now Streaming on Prime Video

Anime series Ghost in the Shell (THE GHOST IN THE SHELL) from acclaimed Japanese studio Science SARU has wrapped up its run on Prime Video. With the tenth and final episode premiering on September 8, the entire 10-episode project is now available for full viewing.

Faithfulness to the 1989 Cult Manga and Science SARU’s Signature Style

Unlike Mamoru Oshii’s famous 1995 feature film or the cult series Stand Alone Complex, the new adaptation draws directly from Masamune Shirow’s original 1989 manga. As producer Kengo Abe noted in a report on the global Ghost in the Shell website, the team aimed to bring to the forefront original philosophical concepts and worldbuilding details that were left out of previous adaptations.

The plot once again focuses on the formation of Public Security Section 9, led by Major Motoko Kusanagi. Cybercrime specialists investigate a series of abnormal hacking attacks that lead them to a legendary digital criminal known as the Puppet Master.

The series was directed by Mokochan (who previously worked on the hit Dandadan), with a script adaptation by Toh EnJoe (Godzilla Singular Point). The artwork blends Shirow’s color palette and signature linework with the dark noir atmosphere characteristic of Science SARU projects (Inu-Oh, The Colors Within).

Season Format and Viewer Ratings

According to the project’s official listing on Amazon, the first season consists of 10 episodes with a runtime of 23–24 minutes each.

Following the release of the finale, the anime held a strong rating of 7.9 out of 10 on MyAnimeList. Viewers highlighted the faithful treatment of the classic manga, dynamic shootout scenes, and a well-crafted soundtrack. As confirmed on the anime adaptation’s website, season one fully wraps up the opening story arc, meaning viewers no longer need to wait for new episodes — the entire project is ready to watch.
