The original Gothic arrives on iPhone and iPad for the first time — with no cut content and no microtransactions

THQ Nordic has released Gothic Classic on iPhone and iPad. It’s a full mobile port of Piranha Bytes’ cult 2001 RPG, not a shortened or adapted version.

The game includes the original campaign, which runs more than 50 hours, along with three camps, the familiar leveling system, weapons, magic and all the core content of the classic Gothic.

For mobile devices, the developers completely reworked the interface and touch controls to adapt the old PC RPG to a small screen. Those who don’t want to play with virtual buttons can use full support for compatible gamepads.

The iOS version also supports cloud saves, Game Center achievements and Family Sharing.

No ads and no in-game purchases

THQ Nordic specifically emphasizes that Gothic Classic did not get the changes typical of mobile games.

It has no ads, microtransactions, energy systems or paid boosters. Users buy the app once and get the full version of the game, with no cut content and no simplified mechanics.

On the US Gothic Classic page in the App Store, the price is $10.99. Prices in other regions may differ.

Installation requires at least iOS or iPadOS 17.6, and the app is about 3.9 GB.

The App Store lists eight languages: English, German, Polish, Russian, French, Spanish, Italian and Czech.

The mobile release marks Gothic’s 25th anniversary

THQ Nordic announced the iOS version back in March 2026 as part of the series’ 25th anniversary celebration.

The original Gothic came out on March 15, 2001, and over time became one of the most recognizable European RPGs of the early 2000s.

Before the mobile release, Gothic Classic had already arrived on Nintendo Switch and later made its way to modern PlayStation and Xbox consoles. On consoles the game sells for considerably more — around $29.99 — while the mobile version launched at $10.99.

So for the first time, iPhone and iPad have received a full official version of the original Gothic — with the same world, quests and mechanics, but with a new interface and touchscreen controls.
