Brabus has unveiled the 900 ROCKET EDITION CABRIO, an extreme open-top SUV based on the W465-generation Mercedes-AMG G 63. To turn the G-Class into a true four-door convertible, the tuner developed more than 500 new components, including body reinforcements and a complex two-section soft top.
Production is limited to just 10 vehicles worldwide. That clarification matters: some publications cite a figure of 50 units, but the current Brabus page states outright that the run is ten cars.
The power-operated roof folds down or raises fully in 20 seconds. The front section anchors to a reinforced windshield frame, while a built-in carbon crossmember helps the soft top hold its shape at high speed.
A steel C-BOW element with carbon trim sits behind the rear doors. It supports the rear section of the roof and doubles as a roll bar.
Water tightness is tested with unusual thoroughness: after assembly, every vehicle spends more than ten hours in an artificial rain chamber, and only after passing the test is it handed over to its owner.
900 hp and 3.7 seconds to 100 km/h
Under the hood sits Brabus’s signature 4.5-liter V8 biturbo ROCKET 900, good for 900 hp.
The engine’s maximum potential is 1,250 Nm, but in the car itself torque is electronically limited to 1,050 Nm to reduce the load on the transmission.
The convertible hits 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, while top speed is electronically capped at 240 km/h because of the tires it runs.
The vehicle gets the widened WIDESTAR carbon body kit and specially developed 24-inch Brabus Monoblock II EVO Platinum Edition wheels.
There is one small correction to the original data: Brabus officially lists the rear tires as 345/25 ZR24, not 355/25. The rear wheels themselves are 12 inches wide. Up front are 10Jx24 wheels with 295/30 ZR24 tires.
Every car gets a digital passport
The interior has been completely reworked by the Brabus Masterpiece division. The trim uses black leather and Alcantara, red stitching and Rocket Red accents, plus plenty of gloss carbon.
To make it easier to get into the back, the rear doors get special Easy Entry hinges that let them open to an angle of up to 90 degrees.
Each car is also assigned a Digital Product Passport built on the Aura Blockchain Consortium. It is integrated into a special Brabus badge in the trunk and contains verifiable information about the car’s authenticity, its specifications and its ownership history.
All in all, the 900 ROCKET EDITION CABRIO is a far cry from ordinary G 63 tuning: Brabus effectively developed a separate open-body design for it, keeping the four side doors while reinforcing the vehicle’s structural core.
