CD Projekt RED Raises The Witcher 3 System Requirements Ahead of Remastered Launch

CD Projekt RED has updated the system requirements for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, which launches on September 29. After the update, the officially supported PC version will require at least Windows 11, 12GB of RAM, an SSD and a GeForce GTX 1660 or comparable graphics card.
According to CD Projekt RED’s official support page, the minimum configuration is as follows:
- Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600;
- GeForce GTX 1660 6GB, Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB or Intel Arc A580;
- 12GB of RAM;
- 70GB on an SSD;
- 64-bit Windows 11.
After the update, the game will also move entirely to DirectX 12, and HDDs will no longer count as a supported storage type.
Recommended specs call for an RTX 2060 Super
The recommended specs first appeared on the game’s Battle.net page. Notebookcheck also lists them:
- Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X;
- GeForce RTX 2060 Super, Radeon RX 6600 XT or Intel Arc B580;
- 16GB of RAM;
- 70GB on an SSD.
Neither CD Projekt RED nor the published configuration ties these requirements to a specific resolution, graphics settings or frame rate. So claims of guaranteed 1080p and 30 FPS on a GTX 1660 remain unconfirmed.
The Remastered version’s real-world performance can only be assessed once the final build is out.
Players will be able to keep the old version
The requirements have risen considerably compared with the current version of the game. On Steam, until September 29 the minimums remain 6GB of RAM, a GeForce GTX 660 or Radeon HD 7870 and 50GB of free space. The recommended configuration currently lists 8GB of memory and a GTX 1070 or RX 480.
CD Projekt RED attributes the move to Windows 11 to Microsoft ending support for Windows 10 and driver makers gradually winding down support for the older system. An SSD, in turn, is needed for faster loading and streaming of game data.
Owners of older PCs will still be able to roll back to the previous version of The Witcher 3, but the new technical improvements in Remastered won’t work in it.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered launches on September 29 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. For owners of the existing game on supported platforms, the remaster will be a free update and will include technical, visual and gameplay improvements.
