Koenigsegg Unveils 1,600-HP CCGT1 Hypercar: Reviving a 2007 Race Project

Swedish automaker Koenigsegg has officially presented the CCGT1 track hypercar. Designed as a modern tribute to the 2007 CCGT race project, the new model will be limited to 70 units and produces up to 1,600 hp on E85 biofuel.
The original CCGT GT1 race car was built in 2007 as a one-off to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Just two months after testing began, the FIA and ACO revised their regulations: carbon monocoques were banned, and the required road-car production run for homologation jumped from 20 cars over several years to 350 units annually, forcing the project to be canceled. Recently, that historic prototype was restored by the Koenigsegg Legends Division and is being prepared for historic racing events.
Aerodynamics, Chassis, and Ghost Fibre Material
The new CCGT1 is built on the foundation of the CC850 road coupe, though nearly all exterior panels were redesigned—only the doors and removable top remain shared. The build marks the debut of Ghost Fibre, a composite blending aramid fibers and carbon fiber that offers lower weight and increased impact resistance.
An active rear wing with a 30° range of adjustment operates in low-drag, maximum-downforce, and air-brake modes. In total, the aerodynamic bodywork generates up to 800 kg of downforce at 250 km/h.
Engine, Transmission, and Removable Track Package
According to the official Koenigsegg press release, the company’s proprietary twin-turbo V8 delivers 1,280 hp on standard gasoline and 1,600 hp on E85 fuel. The powertrain is paired with a 9-speed Light Speed Transmission (LST) featuring a sequential shift algorithm: the mechanical clutch engages solely when launching from a standstill, with subsequent gears shifted directly via the lever.
The hypercar is road-legal, but features the brand’s first-ever factory Track Package. The option includes a removable carbon-fiber roll cage, racing bucket seats compatible with HANS neck protection, built-in air jacks, a fire-extinguishing system, and a wheel set fitted with track tires.
Production of the Koenigsegg CCGT1 is limited to 70 cars, and all build slots were fully sold out to customers prior to the public reveal.
