Retro Shooter Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun II Launches October 14 With DOOM Composer Soundtrack and Two Heroes

Developer Auroch Digital and publisher Big Fan Games have announced the official release date for retro shooter Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun II. The sequel to the brutal 1990s-style action game launches on October 14, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with DOOM composer Mick Gordon writing the main theme for the project.
The release on the Nintendo Switch 2 hybrid console will follow slightly later.
Chaos Demigod Vashtorr and Two Playable Characters
The sequel’s plot revolves around an invasion of an isolated star system by the arch-demon Vashtorr the Arkifane—master of demonic forges—who has awakened a colossal planetary weapon. To prevent disaster, the heroes must cleanse several planets of corruption by destroying the Chaos artifacts powering it.
The campaign features a branching structure with a choice between two protagonists:
- Malum Caedo: an indomitable Space Marine veteran of the Ultramarines chapter equipped with a heavy arsenal;
- Naira Veyrat: a highly mobile Sister of Battle (Adepta Sororitas) focusing on speed and flame weapons.
The choice of character and routes alters the available levels, ranging from cramped hive-city sublevels to toxic mangrove swamps.
Mick Gordon’s Music and a Free Demo
According to Gematsu, Mick Gordon (DOOM, Wolfenstein: The New Order) was brought in to compose soundtrack work for the game, and his original track is featured in the new trailer.
The enemy roster has been expanded with Khorne Bloodletters and massive demonic Juggernauts. A free two-level demo is already available on Steam, allowing players to test the boltgun shooting, chainsword combat, and dismemberment of enemy hordes.

Nintendo Switch 2 Release
As reported by Nintendo Everything, alongside PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, the game will launch on the next-generation Nintendo Switch 2 console.
