Sci-Fi Horror Rustmourne Brings Dead Space-Style Dismemberment to Virtual Reality

Indie developer Rustmourne Team has released a gameplay trailer for its upcoming sci-fi survival horror game Rustmourne. Built exclusively for PC VR headsets, the project combines Dead Space-style tactical enemy dismemberment with deep physics-based environment and weapon interaction inspired by Half-Life: Alyx.
The game is scheduled to launch in early 2027 on Steam.
Tactical Dismemberment and Reload Physics
Targeting monster limbs serves as the core combat mechanic: shooting the torso is ineffective, so players must sever individual body parts to neutralize threats. Shooting off legs slows mutants down, destroying arms blocks their attacks, and hits to sensitive visual organs blind the creatures, disrupting their spatial coordination.
According to UploadVR, all weapons in the game are designed from the ground up around VR motion controllers. Every weapon type features a unique manual reload sequence, requiring players to physically eject magazines, rack bolts, and operate safety levers by hand.
Sound-Based Stealth and Megastructure Exploration
With ammo constantly scarce, stealth plays a vital role. Monsters lurking in the corridors of the abandoned space station respond to acoustic vibrations, allowing players to throw physical objects to distract them and clear a path.
The story takes place inside a colossal space complex stuck in time, where the protagonist wakes up in an unfamiliar body guided by a mysterious voice. The game dispenses with traditional monitor play, carrying a strict VR Only design approach.
Rustmourne, a Half-Life: Alyx inspired sci-fi horror FPS, is coming to SteamVR.

System Requirements and Release
As noted by TechTimes, running the game at a target 60 FPS in a VR headset requires modest hardware: an Intel Core i5-4590 or AMD FX-8350 processor, 4GB of RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 or Radeon R9 390 graphics card. For smooth 120 FPS gameplay, an RTX 2080 or RX 5700 XT GPU is recommended.
Rustmourne will launch in early 2027 on PC with support for both SteamVR and Oculus PC ecosystems.
