‘Haikyu!!’ Returns in 2027: Trailer Released for Bokuto vs. Kiryu Match

Studio Production I.G has released a new action-packed trailer for the special anime project Haikyu!!: Where Monsters Go. The release focuses on the national tournament quarterfinal match between Fukurodani Academy and Mujinazaka High, with the premiere scheduled for 2027.
At the center of the story is a duel between two of Japan’s top high school aces — Fukurodani’s emotional leader Kotaro Bokuto and Mujinazaka’s powerful spiker Wakatsu Kiryu.

Special Anime Format and Team Posters
According to AniTrendz, the project is being created as a special TV anime rather than a traditional multi-episode fifth season.
Along with the action trailer, the creators revealed individual posters for both teams featuring key starting lineup players.
Parallel Movie and Franchise Success
As reported by Anime Corner, the studio is simultaneously developing a feature film, Haikyu!! The Movie: VS The Little Giant. It will feature the parallel quarterfinal match between Karasuno and Kamomedai, centered on the clash between Shoyo Hinata and Korai Hoshiumi for the title of the new “Little Giant.”
The franchise’s previous feature film, “The Dumpster Battle” (2024), delivered phenomenal box office results, grossing over 20 billion yen worldwide.
The creators will announce the exact release date for Where Monsters Go on the official franchise portal at a later date.
